Replace a Card

You may request a Cal 1 Card replacement if:

  • your card was lost
  • your card was stolen
  • your card was damaged
  • you changed your legal and/or chosen/lived name
  • you had a drastic change in appearance

Steps for Replacing a Lost or Stolen Cal 1 Card

1. Report or deactivate a lost or stolen Cal 1 Card

You are solely responsible for reporting or deactivating a lost or stolen Cal 1 Card.

Report/deactivate your card in one of three ways:

If you have card-key access to a facility on campus, report the lost/stolen card immediately to your card-key administrator or building manager so that they may deactivate the access authorizations on the card.

Note: Once you have reported the lost or stolen card, you assume no further liability for any unauthorized use.

If you find your lost Cal 1 Card before obtaining a replacement, but after reporting it as being lost and deactivating it, you may reactivate it in one of three ways:

2. Pay the card replacement fee

There is a $35 nonrefundable replacement fee for all lost cards.

If your card was stolen, the fee may be waived as long as you present the corresponding police report or case number at the time of requesting the replacement card. If you do not intend on filing a police report or have not yet done so at the time of requesting the replacement card, the nonrefundable replacement fee will apply.

For undergraduate and graduate students, the fee will be billed to your student billing account. Please note that you must complete and submit the electronic request form accepting the $35 lost card replacement fee as follows in advance of receiving the replacement card:

  • Login to your Cal 1 Card account
  • Select the “Pay Lost Card Replacement Fee” link
  • Select the embedded “Online Request Portal” link for Undergraduate and Graduate students

    Make an Appointment
  • All appointments will be for in-person services at the Cal 1 Card office at your scheduled appointment time.

  • During peak production periods (July through September), there may be very few (if any) available appointments..
  • If the need for card issuance is urgent and you are unable to wait for the next available appointment date/time, please join the virtual kiosk line and await your turn.

4. Regain Access Authorizations

If applicable, please contact your card-key administrator to regain facility access.

Steps for Replacing a Damaged Card

If you suspect that your card is damaged, please bring it to the Cal 1 Card office so that we may perform a functionality assessment.

If the assessment confirms that the card is damaged, you will receive a free replacement card.

If the assessment confirms that the card appears to be fully functional, you will receive information on the next steps for further assistance regarding the specific type(s) of card functionality problem(s).

A $35 nonrefundable replacement fee will apply if you do not have the damaged card with you at the time of requesting the replacement card.

Steps for Replacing a Card because of a Name Change

The process for getting a replacement Cal 1 Card with a new name differs depending on your campus affiliation.

For students

  1. Visit this Office of the Registrar page for more information on how to submit a Legal or Chosen / Lived Name change and follow the corresponding instructions.

Note: Chosen / Lived Names will be printed on the Cal 1 Card instead of Legal Names.

  2. Login to your Cal 1 Card account to check on the status of the name change in the Cal 1 Card production system.  Once the new name is reflected therein, you may go to the Cal 1 Card Office to get the replacement Cal 1 Card:

Note: The Legal Name change process may take several work days before the name is updated in the Student Information Systems database and then 1 – 2 additional days to be imported to the Cal 1 Card production system.  The Chosen / Lived Name change process will be quicker and is generally imported to the Cal 1 Card production system within 2 days.

Note: Please bring your previously issued Cal 1 Card with the old name for an even exchange, free of charge. If you do not, a $35 lost card replacement fee will apply.

For employees/affiliates

  1. Login to your UCPath account
  2. Select “Edit Profile”
  3. Select “Personal Information”
  4. Select “Legal Name / Name”
  5. Enter your new “Legal Name” or (Chosen / Lived) “Name”

Note: Chosen / Lived Names will be printed on the Cal 1 Card instead of Legal Names.
